23 May Hurricane Season Ahead
As we all know, hurricane season starts on June 1st. Before we start to see the tropical activity ramp up, the experts at AWS suggest that you review your policies now. Please do not wait until a storm is on the horizon. No single insurance policy will cover all types of hurricane damage. For example, most homeowners insurance policies won’t pay for flood damage, so if you want coverage, you’ll need flood insurance.
Please also keep in mind that you may need more coverage. Repairs to your property may be more costly due to the recent increase in labor and lumber costs.
Hurricane Preparedness Checklist:
- Water (one gallon per person per day for several days, for drinking and sanitation)
- Food (at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food)
- Battery-powered and an NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert
- Flashlight
- First aid kit
- Extra batteries
- Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
- Plastic sheeting and duct tape (to shelter in place)
- Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties (for personal sanitation)
- Wrench or pliers (to turn off utilities)
- Manual can opener (for food)
