Happy Mardi Gras

As we all know, Mardi Gras 2021 has been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic but the cancelation has not stopped the Mardi Gras spirit in the New Orleans area. Beautifully adorned float houses have been popping up around the city, which has breathed a little life and hope into some local businesses as well as uplifted the mood for so many avid parade-goers.

It is a wonderful thing to see so many families in our community going the extra mile to preserve the traditions in our culture. The float house craze has allowed families across the area to join in a safe, downsized carnival celebration. In certain neighborhoods and along streets like St. Charles Ave., people can be seen walking along with their children, taking pictures, and getting a close-up sidewalk or front yard view of the merriment. With this activity comes a little extra responsibility for the property owner.

If you plan on being a part of the float house celebration, and we hope you are considering it, please remember the following:
  • Make sure that all sidewalk areas on and around your property are clear of debris or anything that children may slip on
  • Make sure that your front porch and/or yard are properly lit
  • If visitors will be walking through a yard, make sure there are no holes for them to trip and fall in
  • Please make sure that all decorations are safe and appropriate for children to be around
